Auf der Hotelinsel Soneva Fushi auf den Malediven wird ein neuartiges Kühlsystem installiert. Dabei wird 12 Grad kaltes Meerwasser aus rund 300 Metern Tiefe nach oben gepumpt, um die Hotelzimmer zu kühlen. Ähnliche Systeme sind zwar an verschiedenen Orten auf der Welt schon verfügbar. Das Neue an dieser Technik ist allerdings, dass die Rohrleitungen so weit in die Tiefen des Ozeans hineinragen. Auf anderen Inseln wie zum Beispiel auf Hawaii wird kühles Flusswasser angezapft.
Mit dieser neuen Technologie will das Hotel-Ressort auf den Malediven etwa 30 Prozent an elektrischem Strom einsparen, der sonst für eine herkömmliche Klimaanlage verwendet werden würde. Dies spart nicht nur Geld sondern schont auch die Umwelt.
Nach Informationen des Managements auf der Insel soll die Anlage noch dieses Jahr in Betrieb genommen werden.
