Die Marriott Hotelgruppe wird im Jahr 2009 auch ein Hotel auf den Malediven eröffnen. Die 5-Sterne-Hotelanlage wird auf Gaakoshibee Island im Shaviyani Atoll entstehen. Die Insel ist noch weitgehend unberührt und zeichnet sich durch hervorragende Tauchgründe und herrliche Sandstrände aus.
Das Luxusresort wird hochexklusiv sein und zielt laut dem Managing Director vom Marriott hauptsächlich auf die sehr reichen Touristen aus Großbritannien, Deutschland oder Italien sowie auf Hochzeitsreisende ab. Neben Strandvillen mit Garten wird es auch Überwasservillen mit einem privaten Sonnendeck geben. Luxusreisende dürfen also schon mal gespannt sein.
